Free concert this Sunday West African Kora music and Ladino songs on oud

Destiny City Music Collective presents Global Strings: West African Kora music and Ladino songs at Center for Spiritual Living, 206 N J St, Sunday Sept 22 at 2 PM.
      Sean Gaskell features songs on the kora- a 21 string West African harp. In 2008, '12 and '18 he studied extensively instruction of Moriba Kuyateh and the late Malamini Jobarteh at their home in Brikama, Gambia. In 2023, He spent a month in Senegal studying with Youssoupha Cissokho and his son Mamadou Cissokho. The kora is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots. Many songs preserve an 800 year history dating back to the start of the Mandinka Empire. Gaskell has presented at nearly 400 libraries throughout the US and Canada as well as a multitude of k-12 schools, colleges, universities and assisted living facilities.
      Ken Jacobsen(oud) will be performing some traditional songs from the Sephardic Spanish diaspora. Admission is free(donations appreciated) and event will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@DestinyCityMusicCollective/playlists
