From Tina Green:
03/10/14 - Fairfield, Sunken Island, at the west end of Fairfield
Beach Rd -- female and 1st winter male King Eider pair continues out
at Sunken Island. The viewing conditions Were excellent at 8:40.
Sunken Island was covered over but you could look out towards the red
bellbuoy where all the ducks are feeding and resting.  A scope is
absolutely necessary for viewing these ducks!

From Sara Zagorski:
03/10/14 - Fairfield, Sunken Island -- When we saw the King Eiders
Monday morning, they were first seen way to the left of the red buoy.
They rapidly made their way to the right and then we lost them. This
was a little after 10:30 AM, and Sunken Island was not visible at all.
So they were traveling west along the shore, if this is at all
helpful.

From Frank Mantlik:
03/10/14 - Fairfield, Sunken Island -- no luck seeing the King Eiders,
but there was an adult LesserBlack-backed Gull on nearby Penfield
Reef.
Stratford, McKinney NWR, end of Long Beach Blvd near BE/Aerospace --
SNOWY OWL on fallen tree at end of Long Beach West (next to left
Osprey platform), 20 BOAT-TAILED GRACKLES atop trees nearby. My first
of year.

From Robert Marra:
03/10/14 - West Haven -- around 7 AM; an immature Snowy Owl being
chased by a couple of crows, on the shoreline in the vicinity of
Chick's.

From Jan Collins:
03/10/14 - Enfield, Barnes Launch -- 11:30 AM; RED-NECKED GREBE
continues diving near and all the way under and up the otherside of
the pack ice in front of the landing for great looks. At one point
even scrambled out of the water onto the ice and sat like a football
for a few minutes showing off just how far back those legs are set on
the body.  He then plopped back in and looked much more comfortable
back in the water!  9 NORTHERN PINTAIL continue.

From Stefan Martin:
03/10/14 - Greenwich, Greenwich Point -- 4:45 PM; relocated the EARED
GREBE, same location as before.

From Phil Rusch:
03/10/14 - Storrs, UCONN, in the wet area between Horsebarn Hill and
Gurleyville Roads -- Around 4:30 PM; 4 to 5 Wilson's Snipe, 3 Rusty
Blackbirds right where the wet area intersects with the woods.

From James Purcell:
03/10/14 - Fairfield, Penfield Reef -- evening; the male Barrow's
Goldeneye continues.  I should note that both yesterday and today the
bird was way off to the left (or east) of the reef, instead of
straight out towards the lighthouse where most of the ducks were. In
other words, he was in line of sight of Seaside Park, but much closer
(only a few hundred yards from the reef).  Also at the reef were six
male Redheads mixed in with the scaup (a first for me at the reef),
and Frank's Lesser Black-backed Gull.
