Subject: Digital Partnerships-FYI
Good morning:
Many of our institutions are in position to benefit from the increased visibility and awareness, from other non-profit and for-profit organizations, of our collections and our goal to expand access. It is important that library and archive leadership (you and I) sensitize our campus administrators who are responsible for the execution of such contracts and agreements, about the essential requirements for digitizing collections and maintaining access without cost to the wide community of scholars, researchers and students.
Explaining the nuances of digital access and policy is our responsibility. To assist with this I have attached information that you may find useful in the event your institution is approached by another organization about a partnership to digitize items in your collection. We know our history and it is critical during these times that we protect our schools’ assets for the short and long term.
This message is provided as information only, it is not to discourage your potential collaborations.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need any assistance or have questions.
Also, I urge you to be proactive and share this information with the appropriate school administrators, now.
Thank you.
