My wife & I live in Shark River Hills. The inlet is very easy,but can be tricky with a wind from the East while entering. DO USE THE LIGHTED INLET BUOY TO LINE UP FOR THE ENTRANCE!! There is shoaling on the South side of the inlet which is not noticeable at high tide. The bridge opens on demand ( channel 13) and once inside you have a choice of about 3 marinas just past the CG station you will pass on your right. You can anchor on the right side of the main channel though head boats going out might bounce you a bit. (Usually 730 AM out 1330 in, 1500 out 1730 in)

(Usually 730 AM out 1330 in, 1500 out 1730 in) If you want to continue past the RR bridge (usually up, you will then pass under the RT 35 bridge, 50 vertical clearance 40 wide) you can come into Shark River. You will have the Belmar Marina on your left, or can go up along side the Park and anchor up (6 to 7 feet) There is a West Marine in the shopping mall by the Marina. Easy in & out , but remember those head boats going out in the morning, sort of own the river! Best time to enter the top of Sandy Hook for NY Bay, 2 1/2 hours after Battery Low Tide, nice 3 knot boost North.
