To: Anyone interested in PHRF Handicap racing news, scoring and race
results at Nyack Boat Club

I'll be using a Google Group for all future news and updates regarding
Cruising Fleet Scoring and PHRF racing at Nyack Boat Club, including race
results.

There have been complaints and confusion regarding the posting of racing
results, which I have been posting to the Members, Cruising Fleet, and
Cruising Fleet Racing email lists.  Except for very occasional updates to
the entire NBC membership, I'll no longer send race results, announcements,
etc. to the three listservs we've been using (not to [Members], [Cruising
Fleet] or [Cruising Fleet Racing]).  Ultimately we intend to stop using the
Cruising Fleet Racing list and delete it, given racing activities will be
handled on the Google Group.

The new Group is NBC PHRF, and anyone can see a full archive of the posts
at
https://groups.google.com/a/nyackboatclub.org/forum/?oldui=1#!forum/nbcphrf.
(most recent is the Cruising Fleet Series Leader Board as of July 10).

Compared to the email listservs we've been using, Google Groups provides a
more expansive tool set for us to manage the group, and a greater range of
options for members like you to communicate and collaborate, with fewer
annoying bounces and rejections.

(We're not breaking new ground here -- the NBC Sonar Fleet already does all
their business in a Google Group.)

While anyone can see the Group posts using the above link, only a
registered Group member can receive email updates and contribute to the
Group.  Anyone can join who is invited or applies for membership (and is
accepted).  You must register your email with Google (any email, you don't
have to have Google gmail) and create an account -- you may already have a
Google account, and can use this to apply for Group membership.

If you're a member of the Group (NBC PHRF), you can do the following:

  • Choose how you want to receive updates -- every email, a regular
digest of emails, a daily abridged digest, or no emails at all.
  • You can post to the Group by email (nbcphrf@nyackboatclub.org), or by
composing a post directly in the Group -- members will receive an email
    according to their individual choices.
  • You can add responses to a post (like a Discussion Board).
  • You can search the archive of all past posts, and always have
convenient access to prior posts (like race results).
  • You can see who else is a member of the Group.

I directly enrolled all 2020 skippers as Group members, and I've invited a
group of members I think will be interested (crew, former racers, etc.).
If you'd like to become a member of NBC PHRF, please access the Group
https://groups.google.com/a/nyackboatclub.org/forum/?oldui=1#!forum/nbcphrf,
sign-in to your Google account (it may be automatic, if you already have an
account), and click "Apply to Join Group".  Likewise, if you have
non-member crew who'd like to receive racing updates and results, you may
pass this information along to them and they may request to join.
