All,So far here is the schedule I have from McAuliffe. This will be a big one for us and youth rugby in general. Since we are going to be doing 2 classes at a time we need 3 people per group for a total of 6 people all day for 2 days.I already have a clinic format that I have put together with help from JR.
As it stands right now here is who I have for the 2 days.April 1:1. Tom2. Brenda3. Mitch Nelson4. Steve Gore?5.6.
April 2: 1. Tom2. Brenda3. Mitch Nelson4.5.6.
Please let me know if you are able to help out any of these days. And forward on to anyone who can help. Andy can you pass this on to the Barbos? Also we have updated the FB page with the flyer for spring and I have also attached it below.
Thanks,Tom-303 Rugby Club720-935-5467www.303Rugby.org

Hi Tom,
The Schedule for the school day would be the same for both April 1st (Red Day) and April 2nd (White Day), but there would be completely new students on the second day as we have alternating day block scheduling for PE.
Period 1/2: 8:05am - 9:15am (8th graders)Period 3/4: 9:55am - 11:00am (6th, 7th, and 8th graders)Period 5/6: 11:35am - 12:45pm (7th graders)Period 7/8: 1:20pm - 2:30pm (6th, 7th, and 8th graders)Period 9/10: 2:45pm - 3:55pm (6th graders)
In terms of the average number of students, it varies quite a bit. Most of our classes are around 40-45 students each, but we do have some that are around 30 students. Also, we usually have 4 PE sections being taught at a time. Would you be able to have 80-90 students (2 classes) at a time in the clinic, or should we just plan on one section of 40-45 students when our larger classes are being taught? If we do combine the two groups, there would be two PE teachers available to support with the larger numbers if needed.
To allow for as many students as possible to have the opportunity to participate in the Rugby clinic, we could divide the class time of 70 minutes in half to allow for half of the students in PE to participate in the first 35 minutes of each class and the other half of students in PE to participate in the second 35 minutes of class.
That schedule would be:
Period 1/2 (First Half): 8:05am - 8:40am (approx.60-65 8th graders)(Second Half): 8:40am - 9:15am (approx.60-65 8th graders)
Period 3/4: (First Half) 9:55am - 10:30am (approx.45 6th graders)(Second Half) 10:30am - 11:00am (approx.55-65 7th, and 8th graders)
Period 5/6: (First Half) 11:35am - 12:10pm (approx.90 7th graders)(Second Half) 12:10pm - 12:45pm (approx.90 7th graders)
Period 7/8: (First Half) 1:20pm - 1:55pm (approx.45 6th graders)(Second Half) 1:55pm - 2:30pm (approx.60-65 7th and 8th graders)
Period 9/10: (First Half) 2:45pm - 3:20pm (approx.90 6th graders)(Second Half) 3:20pm - 3:55pm (approx.90 6th graders)
If the weather is good and working with two groups (more than 60 students), we would recommend to do the Rugby clinic outside in our field space. However, if it works better for you to work in the gym with the groups smaller than 60 we will definitely make sure to accommodate as best as we can.
I hope that this is helpful in looking at our PE student numbers and schedule. Please let me know if I can clarify anything or help to answer any questions.
We truly do appreciate your willingness to come and work with our students at McAuliffe!
Thanks!!!

Hello Kurt and Laura,I have April 1s and 2nd now that I am planning to host demos. Do you have a schedule and an estimated amount of kids per group?I believe the gym indoors will be ideal depending on how many we are expecting?

As long as we are firm on the dates I can start getting a team together.

Katherine,
I am thrilled at the reception this proposal is getting. I am not sure that I can commit to multiple days but I can def make 2 days work if that would be better.
Depending on my ability to get volunteers to help me, we are planning to be there all day at least one of the days scheduled. So whatever day(s) you feel works best during the week of April 1st let me know and I will get folks lined up.
Thanks,

This sounds awesome! If we can have people teaching all day and getting to each class once or twice that would be super awesome! I'd say for 8th grade classes we can probably combine classes if necessary since they're a little smaller and we'd have groups of about 60, but for 7th and 6th grade classes we'd have to come up with a schedule where classes rotate through alone since most of the class sizes are plus 40.
If 303 is down for coming most of the day throughout the week I know we can make a schedule where everyone can get a chance to do rugby. First week of April is probably good especially since service day was cancelled. Let us know the times you can be here for each day and we'll make the schedule. Our school day goes from 8-4.

Hi,
This is awesome! Thanks Tom! I teach 8th grade classes and have a few rugby players. So, if you want to do the clinic with 8th grade classes, I know they would be stoked and good leaders.
I'll let others with 6th graders weigh in about date and if it works for 8thg rade classes, great!

Kendra,
Thanks for looping everyone in. Last year worked ok but I did not plan for the number for the number of kids. I will have many more volunteers this year to help out.
But I would like to do in groups of 60ish if possible so however we can make that happen I am open. The idea behind the groups is to really allow the kids to experience some of the aspects and play of Rugby without waiting in a bunch of lines. We can do sessions all day and if we have to do a large group I will set it up to handle that. 6th graders are the target but would love to include 7th and 8th this year.
I was thinking that we do it the first week in April if that works for you.

Hi Tom!
I'm going to loop in the PE teachers here and see what day is best. Are you thinking one day? Any particular grade? Or Multiple grades? The gist of our schedule is 8th grade morning classes, 7th grade mid day classes and 6th grade end of day classes. We did 6th grade last year and I think that they did well. We'll probably be looking at dates in April or May.
PE Team- this is a rugby clinic for middle school age athletes sponsored by USA Rugby and Rugby Colorado (it's pretty cool to watch the clubs come together to promote the sport). The idea is to generate interest in the sport of Rugby for this age group. If you follow the thread below, it will probably make sense. Please reach out if you have any questions. East is the only high school currently offering Rugby as a Club Sport (Sport at all) at the high school level, so chances are we will see some of our McAuliffe Alumni helping these kids out. It will be fun.
Tough part will be deciding which classes or give it as an option to the students?
Please let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to answer.

Kendra,
Its getting to be that time again! I hope all is well! Can you let me know when would be a good time to host another clinic at McAuliffe?
I can get a bunch of East high guys to help as well this time.
I am thinking that I would prefer to have only about 70 kids per group at a time and we can host multiple times to get through as many as possible?
Let me know!

We are scheduled to do a brief into to rugby to the 6th graders at McAuliffe Middle School this Thursday from 2p to 3p with about 30 mins of prep beforehand.
Kendra Collings is the contact there and will have all the 6th graders at that time. She had indicated that there were 3 classes of appx. 30 kids in each. So I am looking for people to run help 3-4 different skills/drills groups.
