To cap it off as a measure of encouragement to others, I am a ladies
shoe salesman starting out with zero understanding of anything
mechanical whatsoever. I am approaching 66 yrs old, and will rack up
18,000 nm at the end of this year in a little over 2 years. Yes I'm a
lot smarter now of course, but better off I believe than many of my
friends at home falling off their twig playing golf.

This is a little schizophrenic as I received a very nice note from Peter
offlist and then on list I'm a dickhead. Usually, this type of language
isn't tolerated on Georgs' lists, but it may not be that offensive in
Australia.

The real reason for a moribund list is that Georgs has set the bar rather
high for participants' contributions and there are two other lists which
draw these participants to them. One is the long-established Trawlers &
Trawlering and the other is the new Nordhavn Dreamers list. The very active
voyaging community seems to gravitate to the latter list while T&T has some
of these same cruisers plus a few more who have either already done it or
are doing it now. Many of these folks invest their time in their own blogs
as well. Georgs wants people like them to share their experiences here and
it isn't happening. So, I think that it takes more than a single "dickhead"
to affect the marketplace of ideas. Since my coastal voyages don't meet
Georgs' criteria, I'll just go back to monitoring this list for interesting
experiences.
