<snip> While ENS has a lot of power, and certainly can clarify confusing
situations, it also can be a hazard.,

nip> I'm still not certain that I won't have ENS
when we depart next year cruising <snip>

It's apparent that many persons "Attacking" ENS don't have a ENS system such
as  Nobeltec's VNS, Capt'n, or Maptec.  Many of you live by the "Measure
twice, cut once" rule.  If you navigate by that rule and use ALL available
resources you will love ENS.

That is unless you still use your slide rule and don't trust those new
fangle calculators.

I had been out of boating since 1992, so no ENS experience. Recently brought
my "new" LRC from Fl to Annapolis using MaxSea ENS with an iBook. What was
it like?

Remember financial spreadsheets without Excel?
Channel surfing without a remote?
Rolodex made of paper?
Mailing lists without the internet?

Spent most of a day off Georgia in the fog (and several hours on the
Chesapeake). Never fun, but made easily tolerable with ENS and radar.

UNQUESTIONABLY, ENS is not a luxury; it is a tool which NO BOAT should be
without. Way past cool!

Despite my use of ChartView Pro I still find the Weems and Plath slide
rule and vector calculator quite useful.  Check out
http://www.weems-plath.com/productpage.asp?pk=48.  Sometimes old
tech interfaces quite nicely with the modern non-ARPA radar.  It can
also calculate set/drift, true wind, etc. without any trig.
calculations.
