Besides being a licensed yacht broker, I have had my captain's license for almost 30 years, and travel with clients as a teaching captain. A few weeks ago I mentioned in TWBST that I was going to be travelling on board a Nordhavn 62 from Key West to Washington DC. From Key West to Coinjock we used 920 gallons. We had run from Key West to Fort Lauderdale, had a minor repair done on the autopilot, ( what a relief!), then ran to Charleston, SC and then outside to Beaufort. The owners of this beautiful yacht are Greg and Caolina Ellis, and will be cruising extensively for the next few years. The ultimate liveaboard! If you see "DISCOVERY GIRL" say Hello to them. Next week I take a 24 knot motoryacht to Cleveland. This yacht burns 54 gallons per hour at 24 knots ( top 30 knots), for EACH engine. We will use more in one day than the Nordhavn did on the whole trip. This yacht is called "DEFENSE", a 70' Johnson.
