Dear HBCU Library Alliance Colleagues,
I hope you are doing well. We are excited to invite you and your institution to participate in an upcoming webinar with great promise for expanding diversity and inclusivity in shared print programs.
The Eastern Academic Scholars' Trust (EAST) is actively working towards fostering more significant participation in shared print programs and increasing diversity and inclusivity. EAST is one of North America's largest shared print programs, comprising over 130 libraries across 15 eastern states.
EAST participates in an IMLS Planning Grant and is offering grant subsidies to facilitate the inclusion of 2 to 3 new Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) libraries. These subsidies cover the development of a services model and provide collection analysis services for participating libraries. Those interested in joining EAST as Retention Partners may also receive a subsidy for formal onboarding. These subsidies offer it an excellent opportunity for HBCU libraries to become an integral part of a shared print community.
The advisory group, which includes Loretta Parham, Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library (GA), and two EAST member librarians, Vicki Coleman from North Carolina A&T University (NC) and Richard Bradberry from Morgan State University (MD), has recommended collaboration with the HBCU Library Alliance to provide valuable insights and information. So, we're hosting a webinar to help members gain a deeper understanding of shared print programs and explore the possibilities for leveraging grant funding to participate.
Webinar Title: SCELC & EAST: Community Strategies to Expand Diversity and Inclusivity in the Collective Collection of Shared Printhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrde6ppzsrHNOlq1kygMjIsS4oA_utzvZ8#/registration
Date: November 13, 2023
Time:11 a.m. ET
During the webinar, we will delve into the IMLS-funded project, "Community Strategies to Expand Diversity and Inclusivity in the Collective Collection of Shared Printhttps://scelc.org/scelc-east-shared-print-project," which focuses on enhancing the diversity of institutional participants and collections within shared print programs. The joint effort serves 118 institutions and includes over 12 million retention commitments. Outcomes include the development of national best practices for shared print programs related to the inclusion of minority-serving institutions and a research framework for evaluating diversity in retained materials, including metadata analysis to assess broader representation of minority researchers and topics of interest to minority communities.
Prior to the grant, both SCELC and EAST conducted assessments of their shared print programs, the results of which are summarized in a report available for your review herehttps://eastlibraries.org/wp-content/uploads/CC-Feedback-SCELC-and-EAST-Results-of-Shared-Print-Program-Assessments.pdf.
Register https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrde6ppzsrHNOlq1kygMjIsS4oA_utzvZ8#/registration to secure your spot and receive additional information about the webinar. We are thrilled to embark on this journey with the EAST and hope you can join us in this initiative.
