It has been suggested to me by another lister--NOT by Alex or anyone involved
with running our list--that the portion of my last email referring to the
"present administration" reflected my political views.  While I believe that my
statement was accurate it may also have been inappropriate, especially in
light of Alex's post of earlier today, a part of which I quote above.  I certainly
did not wish to start an online discussion about this topic.

To whom it may concern,

It saddens me every time I have to do this. It can be nothing but
depressing to think that a group such as this, with all the advantages
that we have been given and all of the advantages that we have earned,
would need to be told that civility and politeness are expected of
them. Shown below is a copy of the "Rules of Conduct" to which each
and every one of us agreed on joining Trawler World List.

Although a few of our members might disagree about this, the
administrators of the list (myself included) have tried to avoid
interfering in list discussions. That policy has resulted in an
increased workload for the administrators and a growing willingness,
on the part of the members, to be rude and confrontational. Well, that
policy has ended. You might want to pay particular attention to the
last sentence from the rules.

One comment in closing:

A post such as this usually generates a number of follow up messages
some of support, some in opposition, and some asking for
clarification. In this case, NO SUCH FOLLOW UP IS NECESSARY OR
DESIRABLE. If you like this policy - Fine. If you don't - Tough. If
you honestly can't tell what constitutes good manners - I don't have
time to teach you.
