FLIR video issue found

As I mentioned in my FUBAR posting, my FLIR video quality had gone to crap
after leaving.  What I discovered (through process of elimination) was two
sources of interfearance were the cause:

a.        The primary VHF radio is inducing video "scatter" in the Nauticomp
display.  I think it's because I ran the power to the VHF in the vicinity of
the unshielded video cable to the FLIR.  I hope to fix this by either
shielding the cable or moving the VHF power lead.

b.      Every 2 to 5 seconds a series of waves goes through the display.  It
turns out this was the autopilot motor current.  I think the same solution
to #1 above will correct this.

Having a good FLIR image is important to me, because the FLIR is going to be
a good tool for avoiding the Pangas that are so prevalent in this area.
They don't show up on RADAR, but hopefully I'll be able to see them prior to
running them over.

Thanks to everyone that gave me ideas about AIS, especially Milt Baker.  I'm
going to spend some time on that when we get to PV next week.  We are
delaying our voyage south from Mazatlan because the winds have picked up.
Sunday/Monday looks like the next best weather window for an overnight.

Loving life in Mexico!
