Listees,
So much excellent information goes through this list, but then can be
cumbersome to find in the archives, that I wonder if Georgs and associates
have contemplated keeping a FAQ - distillations of topics. There are
several approaches to this, but much of the work could be delegated to
Listees at large (e.g. if you start a "thread," you may be asked later if
you would like to provide a condensation of it).
The specific topic that got my interest about this is all of the new and
old members introducing themselves. It's great material, which, however, I
don't make time to read (not nearly all of it), and certainly can't
remember. Wouldn't it be great to have it all neatly catalogued somewhere
on the TWL web site? Could include photos, bios, boat information...

PS From www.trawlerworld.com, I do see some old threads on a "Quake" list,
and also a "Bryan's" list, which already does much of this. However - not
well advertised (I didn't know about it before), and looking at it I'm not
just sure of what it does exactly and what its relation is to the TWL as a
whole. All messages? Some? Who decides and how? Also, the messages are
arranged by date, not topic - perhaps I'm hoping for too much. Thanks for
the List managers for all they already do!

Hi Charles,
I do exactly that with the information that I "want" to remember. I have a
file called Trawler Stuff and if any particular subject interests me enough
to want to remember it or it relates directly to me or my boat, I save it in
that file. Works pretty good for me. I also save any URLs that are related
to me in that same file. If I want to refer back to something I just bring
up my "documents", click on Trawler stuff, and look it up. No problem. I
dont keep nearly everything but I keep only what is relative to me.
If it gets to big, which I havent had that problem yet, just put it on a
floppy and file it away.

Good point C. O.,
I have taken it a step further. Since there is a lot of good info on TWL ( a
lot of fluff too!) anyway I have made the following files to store the e-mail
that I wish to keep
CCR (that would be CCRIDER to the uninitiated!) precedes the title to each.
Correspondence
Cruising
Equipt.
Navigation
Phone
Projects
Live aboard
Cooking
Cruising Hints
Fla. Notes
Cruising Friends
Grt Circle Notes.
Computer
I have had other files for particular current projects but then delete after it
is no longer needed. An example was when I was trying to decide on the type
dingy to pur., tv antenna, davits, etc.

That's the second or third time recently I hear someone make a
similar comment.
My take is that a bit of fluff, some airiness and humour are
essential for a good conference. TWL would be a pretty dull place
without it....
