A pity about Earthrace having to abandon their goals. However, I am
surprised they got as far as they did given their financial situation
and what might be called lack of logistics planning. Plus, some plain
bad luck.
I was in Palau last week and talked to some people who helped the
Earthrace crew while they were there. The lack of spare parts was a
real issue for them. And, they arrived looking for biodiesel and when
they couldn't find any, filled up with the common stuff. Expedience.

We passed them as they were pulling into Sutera Harbour in Kota Kinabalu. I
would have liked to turn around to get a closer look at their vessel, but we
had a tight weather window for our passage to HK. As it turned out I'm glad
we didn't go in for a closer look.
I wondered if they planned their stops based upon the availability of bio
fuel, now I know they didn't. It sounds as though they needed a good
project manager to help them.
