I have found, through my own experience and other's, that an all chain
windlass is more reliable then a chain/rope windlass. Also the splice in a
chain/rope setup has always made me nervous. In my cruising area (North
East), I have never needed more than 150ft of rode.

By the way, if you select all chain, add a 20' length of rope at the bitter
end, so that if you can't get your ground tackle off the bottom you can cut
the line.
