Dear Tacoma Art Community,
Energize Tacoma http://www.energizetacoma.org is thrilled to announce the
formation of a registry for experienced mural artists as part of our Original
Art Murals (OAM) initiative. We are seeking talented artists who have a
proven track record of creating large-scale outdoor murals and who are
interested in participating in future public art projects.
About the Original Art Murals (OAM) Program:
Our OAM program aims to transform neighborhoods in Tacoma through the
creation of murals that reflect the city's rich history and vibrant
culture. By establishing this registry, we hope to connect with artists who
can contribute to the ongoing beautification and cultural enrichment of our
community.
Registry Purpose:
The registry will serve as a go-to resource for selecting artists for
various mural projects planned throughout Tacoma. Registered artists will
be considered for upcoming mural opportunities in neighborhoods undergoing
transformation and at prominent locations where these transformations will
take place.
Current Projects:
We are excited to share that we already have two projects currently in the
works:
Developer Partnership: We are currently in the discussion phase with a
building owner about a mural project for an existing office building in
downtown Tacoma. This mural will be the first phase of murals for this
location. Future development in the area by a regional developer could open
up more opportunities for muralists, as additional properties in downtown
Tacoma near the existing office building are slated for redevelopment.
National Chain Partnership: A project with a national chain to design a
welcoming entrance mural for their parking lot, enhancing the aesthetic
appeal and inviting atmosphere for visitors.
Eligibility and Requirements:
Experience: Artists should have a proven track record of creating
large-scale outdoor murals.
Portfolio: Examples of previous mural work, with a focus on outdoor
projects.
Resume: (Artist resume if you have one) Summary of relevant experience
and qualifications.
Artist Statement: Brief statement about the artist's approach to public
art and community engagement.
References: Contact details for previous clients or collaborators.
Location: Artists do not have to be based in Tacoma; however, preference
will be given to Tacoma-based artists.
Potential Project Details:
While the registry is for future projects, here are some general details
about the types of projects you might be considered for:
Location: Various neighborhoods throughout Tacoma, including prominent
buildings in areas poised for transformation.
Theme: Murals will reflect Tacoma's historical events, notable figures,
nature, and cultural milestones.
Technical Requirements: Artists may need to use scaffolding or lifts for
some projects and should have prior experience using such equipment safely
and effectively.
Budget and Compensation: Project-specific budgets will be outlined,
including artist fees and material costs. Payment schedules will typically
include an initial deposit, progress payments, and a final payment upon
completion.
How to Register:
