I am a fan of openscad but totally new to this list so apologize if out of topic, but it is said you are open to new ideas.
I am using opens cad with children (around 9 years old and more). I found that the parallel between formulas and volumes:
Nevertheless, Have you ever considered to provide a user interface with a scratch/snap look and feel ? it will be be a lot easier for beginners and children.

i might use it as well myself, or recommend it to my artist friends

"Developed with the sponsorship of the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA)"
what are they up to with it?

ArpaNet), along with a lot of other beneficial, open source tech we rely
on. They sponsor STEM education for kids because it ties in to their
mission of maintaining US technological superiority. For example,

i am not sure that makes it any better, but never the less this time USA
taxpayers moneys goint into an interesting project and not into
autonomous fighting machines and stuff like that
