Just as it did last July, the levee washed into the canal due to the heavy
rains we experienced earlier this week. I do not yet see the announcement
on the Mobile District USACE site, but our local TV news a showed USACE
spox saying the waterway is closed to commercial traffic and all pleasure
craft with a draft exceeding 7 feet. That is not so bad for the average
cruiser, but those traveling along the waterway may find they must n=move to
one side of the canal to pass the washouts. The temporary repair at or near
mile 263 has apparently washed out again, and there was notice that another
significant washout had occurred near the western end of the canal (at the
eastern end of Chocktawhatchee Bay).
