I'm new here. This site seems as though it could  be very informative. My
wife and I do most of our cruising on the  Upper Hudson/Champlain Canal.
While browsing around I noticed that I  could update a few "free dockage"
spots for any of you wishing to  cruise this way. From Troy, NY, north
you are out of tidal  water.
Waterford, NY, "Gateway to the Erie/Champlain Canals" has an  exceptional
town dock/wall complete with water, 30-50amp power,  showers, restrooms
all free of charge for up to 48 hours with a $10.00  per day fee after
that. And that's 10 dollars per boat.not per foot!  Pump-out for a
minimum charge.
Going north and through the  locks, your next free docking space will be
on the wall in  Mechanicville, NY. Here you have power and water and
close to  town.
Continuing north, past the Schuyler Yacht Basin, which is a  picturesque
marina, and close to Saratoga Springs and where the Hudson  veers west
and the actual manmade canal starts, is Fort Edward. Once  again, close
to town. There are no docks, but a wall to tie off to.  Free water, power
and restrooms and coin operated showers,  ($1.00).
Just before going through the last lock into Lake Champlain,  is
Whitehall, NY. Lots of dock space and wall space with water,  power,
restrooms and showers. This is a sleepy little town with so  much
history. It is considered the birth place of the U.S.  Navy.

I hope this update can be of some help to any of you  wishing to venture
up this way. Maybe we can cross paths in the  future.
