Hello Listees,

I'm looking for a good way to hang fenders off of the Mahogany cap rail on OuttaHere, I've looked at fenderhooks.com and megafend.com and they surely make a beautiful product but I'm hoping someone know of a less expensive product.

Thanks,

John Pounder

John, I can't think of anything cheaper than using clove-hitches to secure
fender lines to the rail.  They are easily tied, infinitely adjustable, and
don't tend to jam and clog with accumulated saltwater.

You're right. But they don't fit the need for boats like OttaHere.
OttaHere has solid waist high bulwarks with a cap rail. The only
possible way to tie a clove hitch would be around the top, down to deck
level, through a freeing port, back up over the top of the rail and
repeat. :-)

Get some aluminum bar - perhaps 3/16" or 1/4" by 1 - 1.5 inches, and bend to fit neatly over the rail - cover with leather to protect the brightwork.  You can mount a clam cleat on the bar to allow easy adjustment of the fender height.

Exactly, but if you are not a craftsman, try here:

I bought four at around $55 each, made to my specs (3 inch wide rail). Cam
cleat would be nice but not necessary.
