US Army Corps of Engineers website is projecting Lake Huron and Lake

Michigan (actually one body of water for level purposes) will be down about
10" from last summer. Last summer was up relative to 2001. This might be the
lowest year since the 1960's. However mariners should note that their lake
charts are based on mean low water datum. There is deep water available but
marginal areas are definitely going to be just that.

It hardly seems possible than anywhere on God's green earth there is a lack
of water. We are having pretty much an average of an inch of rain a day
(sometimes 4", but then we'll have three days of mostly cloudy . . .) and
this has been going on for, let's see, about 40 days and 40 nights? Pretty
close I think.
Here in Maryland we have started to build Arks. (I thought we were the only
ones, but it turns out there's an Ark going up on just about every corner,
so there's room for all.) Those carrying picnic baskets with bottles of wine
poking out the top will get first dibs. Call 1-800-THE-ARK!

Those of you traveling on the Chesapeake Bay by boat please be careful of
debris. On the other hand this may be the first season in several where
there's enough fresh water to keep the nettles at bay for a month or two so
swimming may just be possible!
