Listees, I need your advice. I want to install a 24v inverter on my boat.
Right now I have two 8D batteries wired in series that run my bow
thruster. I think I have a lot of excess battery power available since the
thruster is seldom used, and when it is used its for a few seconds at a
time. I want it to power the fridge/freezer units when the genset is not
running. Can any of you recommend a good 24v inverter that I can install?

To run a compressor such as that found in a refrigerator, you want a
true sine-wave model. Hard to make specific recommendations since you
have not provided any specs on what you are trying to power. You need to
know the running current, start-up current, and locked-rotor amps of
your units. Also whether or not you will use a coordinating device to
prohibit them from starting simultaneously.

Hi all,
I have a buddy anchored off Cumberland Island with a dead port engine
starter.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the area to obtain a starter and install
it? It is on a Hatteras 58 LRC like mine. Lucky guy has bow AND stern
thrusters, so he is able to get the boat anywhere within reason.
Thanks,
Bob

There are boatyards in St Marys, GA and Fernandina, Fl, both just a few
miles away. He might also consider having the starters rebuilt, maybe a
less expensive option if an alternator/starter service facility in either
location. Then there is Jacksonville, guaranteed to have a service facility
for rebuilding or new, slightly farther south and easily within car
distance. The folks in the yacht club at St Marys are often willing to help.
