The international University of British Columbia (UBC) Centre for Cultural Planning and Development is offering a new online workshop "Building Community-Based Resilience" with Mary Rowe (Vice-President, Managing Director - Municipal Arts Society of New York), starting March 9. This workshop can be taken individually for professional development, or applied to the UBC Certificate in Cultural Planning - an international professional learning program delivered 100% online. Online Workshop: Building Community-Based Resilience Through Innovations in Community Engagement and Innovation Networks<https://cstudies.ubc.ca/courses/online-workshop-building-community-based-resilience-through-innovations-community-engagement> Three scheduled online sessions. Wed March 9, 23 & 30 from 1pm-3pm Pacific Time This online workshop draws on case studies of community-based resilience strategies particularly from cities that have been faced with extraordinary challenges: Detroit, New Orleans, Mumbai, New York City, plus experiences from workshop participants that illustrate relevant lessons. Discussion topics include: * Developing useful definitions to resilience that reflect local challenges and responsive solutions; * Identifying and overcoming obstacles (policy, resources) to developing community-based strategies; * Ways to integrate multiple forms of resilience: environmental, cultural, social and economic; and, * New tools available for communities to strengthen innovation networks. INSTRUCTOR: Mary Rowe is an urbanist and civic entrepreneur. She currently lives in New York City and works with government, business and civicl society organisations to strengthen the economic, social, cultural and environmental resilience of the city and its neighbourhoods. Her tenure in New York City follows five years of intense work in the recovering city of New Orleans post-Katrina, where she helped form the New Orleans Institute for Resilience and Innovation.
