Kingston Field Naturalists Regional Sightings for Week ending Apr. 26, '03

Report to OntBirds, from the week's sightings for the Kingston Region, as
reported the compiler.

Page numbers and location Quadrants noted in square brackets [...], are for
named sites. They refer to the MapArt Publishing "Ontario Road Atlas, 2003
Edition".

Page numbers and Quadrants in Open Brace brackets {.....} are for locations
requiring more detail. They refer to MapArt Deluxe Street Atlas of Eastern &
Northern Ontario, 1st Edition.

AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E54 & 55]

KFN Amherst I Field Trip, Monday, Apr. 21. Sightings Report from Bruce
Ripley:

1 FOX SPARROW, 4 E. TOWHEES, 2 BROWN THRASHERS, 1 HERMIT THRUSH, 2 CASPIAN
TERNS, 3 BARN SWALLOWS, 2 N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 1 CLIFF SWALLOW, 1
PURPLE MARTIN, 2 CANVASBACK, 3 REDHEAD, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5 DUNLIN, 3
UPLAND SANDPIPERS, 6 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1 WOODCOCK, 1 WINTER WREN, 1
RING-NECKED PHEASANT. 77 species for the day.

PRINCE EDWARD POINT, [page 35, quads G52 & 53]

Gail Gault was at the point on April 16 and reported an early PALM WARBLER
near house #5245 Long Point Rd. and CASPIAN TERNS at the Kaiser XRoad.

Ken Edwards reported on Apr. 20: "Not a single YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, but
there was 1 PALM WARBLER and all 3 SCOTER species: 13 BLACK, 6 SURF and many
WHITE-WINGED. No BARN SWALLOWS but 2 CLIFF SWALLOWS at the Lighthouse.
HERMIT THRUSHES were scarce with only 5, but there was 1 VEERY, 60 N.
FLICKERS and 20 BROWN CREEPERS.

WOLFE I. [page 36 & 37, quads E56, E57, G52 & G53]

On Apr. 25, Eleanor Sachs & I saw 4 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS soaring over Simcoe
I., SWAMP SPARROWS were heard singing from the marsh east of Sand Bay and
WILSON'S SNIPE called in many locations. There were 4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL in
the Reeds Bay Creek and GREEN-WINGED TEAL & SHOVELER in Button Bay. No
SWANS. Other HAWKS were: 8 N. HARRIER, 7 RED-TAILED HAWKS and 4 AM. KESTREL.
SWALLOWS were everywhere mostly TREE and BARN with few ROUGH-WINGED and 1
CLIFF. SONG & SAVANNAH SPARROWS were very numerous. We heard only 1 E.
TOWHEE and saw 1 PILEATED WOODPECKER, 5 BELTED KINGFISHERS and heard & saw
10 BROWN THRASHERS.

OTHER SIGHTINGS

At Cartwright Point [page 36, quad D56], {page 48, quad N20} One singing
HOUSE WREN on Apr. 24 to 26, a PINE WARBLER on Apr. 25 & 26 and WOOD DUCKS
exploring trees around The Point Road for the past 9 days.
