I set one up to provide a reference for my lab. Not caring about phase noise, I use the 30.72 MHz from the M8F to get 10 MHz from an off-the-shelf PLL.
I suspect the support for a DAC / external disciplined oscillator is just to improve the M8F’s holdover performance.
