Our family has lived aboard Tao Yami for as long as six weeks at a time while we cruised the New York and Canadian canal systems, Lake Ontario, the 1000 Islands, the St Lawrence River and Lake Champlain. The boat has kept us safe and comfortable at all times. Ten years ago, before we bought her, Tao Yami suffered an electrical fire in her engine room. The prior owner replaced the damaged wiring and hoses and secured insurance coverage to put her back into service. Some evidence of the fire still exists in the engine room. None of which creates a structural or systemic deficiency. It is unsightly, however. It’s one of the items on my list that keeps getting put off in favor of more important projects One of the casualties of the fire was the loss of much of the air conditioning system. We removed what wasn’t damaged since we had no need for air conditioning in our cruising area. Essential elements necessary for air conditioning are still in place. The raw water strainer and seacock, water distribution manifold and the electrical system with it’s own 30amp service are available should the new owner wish to reinstall Air Conditioning. Over the years of our ownership we have; Replaced all helm gauges (upper and lower) with new Faria instruments Replaced the flybridge bimini Rebuilt the Maxwell Nillson windlass. Refurbished all thru hull seacocks. Replaced the forward head sink with a custom Corian sliding sink Replaced the forward head toilet. Replaced sink faucet. Six new 6 volt batteries comprise a 645amp hour house bank. Three new group 31 dual purpose batteries start the two engines and the generator. All batteries are linked via two Blue Seas Automatic Charge Regulators. Engine start battery switches were installed. All cables were fused as required. A watering system was installed on the house bank. A custom battery box and cover was built. Everything was done in accordance with ABYC standards. The schematic used was drawn for Tao Yami by an ABYC certified electrician who monitored the installation. Family considerations have changed our plans and we have reluctantly placed Tao Yami for sale.
