The two I would recommend is Nigel Calder's http://www.amazon.com/Boatowners-Mechanical-Electrical-Manual-Calder/dp/0071432388 and Sherman's http://www.amazon.com/Powerboaters-Guide-Electrical-Systems-Second/dp/0071485503 Plus a copy of The 12 Volt Bible. A few weeks ago it was posted about West M. having a sale on the Garmin 400C and then a $50.00 rebate. I bought one and am impressed with it. However I have had several questions which the manual did not address. To solve these issues I have called Garmin tech support twice. Each time the calls were answered immediately by people who spoke English, knew what they were doing and were very courteous. A nice experience which is becoming all too rare.

My two favorite are Nigel Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical
Manual" and Charlie Wing's "Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring".
