Dear NCL Board Colleagues,
Rep. Jared Polis (Colorado) has agreed to introduce the AEFL Week resolution in the House, and Reps. Roe (Tennessee) and Grijalva (Arizona) have signed on as co-sponsors. Weâd like to get more co-sponsors if we can.
Please take a moment to forward the attached Dear Colleague letter to your Representativeâs office with a request to sign on. I will be sending a request to Mrs. Nortonâs office, as Iâm a resident of DC. Hereâs what I plan to say. Feel free to use/adapt it yourself if you like.
Thanks!
Deborah
Dear Congresswoman Norton,
I am writing to you as a resident of the District of Columbia and a member of the Board of the National Coalition for Literacy to ask you to co-sponsor a resolution designating the week of Sept. 26-Oct 1, 2016, as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. AEFL Week raises public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy and the importance of access to basic education programs for the 36 million U.S. adults with low literacy skills.
I am attaching a Dear Colleague letter that was recently circulated by Representative Polisâ office. The letter provides more information about AEFL Week and the Congressmanâs reasons for supporting it.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to seeing your name on the list of co-sponsors.
