8/12 Orange.
We have had several "sick" blue jays here, like Jan had mentioned a while
ago. There was a large family group of about 12-15 birds. Today is the
third sick one I have seen- all puffed up either sitting on the ground
(very approachable) or on the deck railing. One of the wildlife rehabbers
that I contacted (Place called Hope) said that if it is West Nile, there is
nothing that can be done. If I caught it, they would take it and make it
comfortable. I have cleaned and taken down my feeders except for the
thistle and grape jelly feeders.
But our Baltimore Orioles, Catbirds and Mockingbirds are enjoying the
jelly. The Titmice have experimented and tried the jelly feeders.
Also in the yard are House sparrows, Song sparrows, Red bellied
woodpeckers, Downys, Cardinals, Mourning doves, common grackles and Red
winged blackbirds and cowbirds.

Seems to be a little movement this morning. Shaun Martin had 6 species of warbler at Tods. I added a seventh later in the morning. Nothing unusual but the up tick of activity is good signs for what’s to come.

I took all my feeders down for a few days and cleaned everything and have had no more dead Blue Jays the past couple weeks. Fingers crossed because they are very active and vocal around the yard. So nice.
