Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsWe are purchasing a Florida boat to be delivered out of state into the Mobile
area or anywhere else not too far West of there. We'll then live aboard and
will need to stay for about three or four weeks to get our registration
paperwork completed. Any suggestions on or off list would be appreciated. I've
been on Active Captain but minimal detail information is available for the
listed facilities.
Also any advice we can pass on to the delivery agent about the trip from Tampa
to Mobile (direct or coastal) in a 7knot Trawler would be great.
Thanks,
Dave and Marcy Clark

I checked this out. The Mobile area has it's share of markers:

...but there isn't enough detail (or reviews).
We've had "anchorage challenges" for Long Island and the Chesapeake Bay.
They've worked out well creating many new anchorages over the Summer. How
about a GL Mobile Bay Challenge - if you're in that area, been through it,
or just know about it, how about putting in some info and reviews? Mobile
is an important gateway to the Tenn-Tom and a lot of East Coasters like me
want to go through it some day!

Dave,
Definitely look at GRAND MARINER on Dog River. That is our usual stop
coming and going. It is a bit long in the tooth but has a restaurant,
laundry 4 machines, and the necessities. There are a number of liveaboards
as well. ( Probably most important.)
I have not posted Reviews as I have had a slow Aircard connection for the
past months.
Before leaving the area give serious thought to cruising to the WEST as the
area has a lot to offer and is totally different from the ICW east. West you
will find not crowded at all. Very pleasant to not be hemmened in by dozens
of other pleasure boats everywhere you go!!! I suggest that the best turn
around point is Corpus Christy , Texas.
For details see my web page. (I think that I have filed activecaptain
reports on many spots that way.)
Feel free to contact me off line.--That goes for anyone else!!!!
