In a serendipitous moment, I saw small groups (2-3 each) of all three Merganser species all at the same time, within a few hundred yard of each other, in the Farmington River, viewed from Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. Lovely. Mist rising from the water, lingering ice along the banks, russet leaves clinging to oak and beech, golden grasses in the meadow beyond. Grey and gold and silver and white, with the brilliance of mergansers floating through. What a lovely world we live in.
