01/01/14 - Stratford, Knapps Landing -- 8:15 AM; Snowy Owl on one of
the sandbar islands.  From Knapps Landing Restaurant parking lot, look
to right, small sandbar to left of red buoy (not the red buoy in front
of parking lot).
Stratford, Short Beach -- Snow Owl across the river also viewable from
the north end (circle parking lot).

from Cedar Island viewing platform, to the left.

Lapland Longspur, Clay-colored Sparrow.

the campground area.

01/01/14 - Simsbury -- A Red-headed Woodpecker visits continued into
the new year.  He has been making brief visits daily since the middle
of July. Hope he continues thru the winter.

01/01/14 - Milford, Milford Point -- Snowy Owl On far south end of the
marsh at 3:00.  If walking down the beach, it is at the end point of
where you can walk.  May be visible from observation tower but scope
would be very helpful.

01/01/14 - Barkhamsted yard -- Among common stuff 1 Pine Siskin (mixed
in with 60 goldfinches), 1 Fox Sparrow, 4 Common Ravens, and 1 Brown
Creeper.

Goose.

01/01/14 - New Haven, Lincoln Street near the corner of Bradley --  2
PM; juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker.  It was not in its usual tree, but
was spotted when it flew to a tree about half a block north of that on
Lincoln St., stayed briefly near the top (where there's no bark), and
then flew off southwest with trees quickly blocking our view of it.

01/01/14 - Madison, Hammonasset Beach SP -- 1 BLACK GUILLEMOT in
winter plumage at Meig's Point.  We first saw it at approximately 3:30
PM from the viewing platform, then it moved slightly east.  We moved
to the pebble beach to get closer and viewed as it continually dove
and resurfaced.  It then moved west closer to us and shore.  We will
both submit details to ARCC.  Also 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR in the nature
center parking lot, and a SNOWY OWL on a sandy beach straight out from
the Cedar Island viewing platform seen by scores of people.

with terrific concentrations of waterfowl.

FOX SPARROW, 1 first year WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.
Fairfield, Penfield Reef (with James Purcell) -- 1 GREAT CORMORANT, 12
SNOW BUNTING.

feeder -- a new yard icterid to start the year!

01/01/14 - Hartford -- Two Snowy Owls continue today at a CRRA
facility in Hartford that is, unfortunately, not accessible to the
public.  I observed three snowy owls there on 12-24-13, which may be a
CT record for the most Snowy Owls at a single location (i.e. within
300 feet of each other).

blue conduit box on right side of Stonington Water Tower, as viewed
from Stonington Point looking back north towards tower), COMMON EIDER.
