Where to buy new batteries?

Hello All,

Well I need to replace my 4 house batteries - 4D size.  I am looking at
Lifeline AGM batteries - they need to be either AGM or GEL because their
location does not allow easy servicing.

So the questions are:

  1. Any opinions about Lifeline AGM?  Good or Bad?

  2. Good places to order from?

So far my Internet searching has come up with Marine Warehouse
(http://www.marinewarehouse.net/specials.html) and Battery Web.com
(http://www.batteryweb.com/lifeline.cfm) as having good prices.  Any other
places I should get quotes from?

I still am not sure if I want to tackle the job of wrestling the 130lb
batteries in & out myself - I will definitely need help. So the alternate
question is:

  1. Any yards on the northern Chesapeake that I should consider for the job?

I have Lifeline AGMs and love them. Haven't done a thing to them after
installation 4 years ago except keep them charged up. I keep a little
pulsetech on them too. As far as buying... I'd try get the best price you
can locally... I'd hate to have to pay for shipping! BTW, I replaced my old
AGM's with 6V's, two in series to give me 12V. MUCH easier to handle after
you get the old ones out.

Bob and Lynn,

1st boat with Concorde AGMs - no issues but sold the boat 2 years after the
installation

2nd boat -  Concorde AGMs just past 5 years now with no issues.

You do need a good quality 3 stage adjustable charger with these batteries
to get the most life from them. You have to be able to adjust the charging
voltage to match the specs from the manufacturer.

These AGMs are shippable via USP - Don't have to go motor freight.

1st set bought from http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/AgmTech.htm
Good deal and service.

2nd set from http://lifelinebatteries.com/distributorpage.php?id=251
Again, great service and outstanding price!

Here is a list by state by Concorde - seems like you could spend some time
on the phone to do some war dialing to get the best price.

Another page on specs of these batteries
http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/marinebatteries.php

I use the group31T which deliver 105amps each and only weight 69lbs each.

I replaced my house bank with Lifeline 6 volt AGMs in 2000. They run a
Trace SW 2500 Watt inverter plus the other house 12 volt and start the Stb
motor. They have performed perfectly. They still charge at 120 amps and can
discharge to the max capability of the inverter. They replaced 8Ds which
were removed by Worton Creek mechanics (very well spent money), I was able
to reload the 70 lb 6 volt AGMs myself.

Note:
The batteries I replaced were also Lifeline AGMs. When I had the boat in a
shipyard in Fla they somehow were ruined. The shipyard said they did not do
anything (who would have thought) so I called Lifeline to see what they
could tell me and gave them the serial numbers. They were very upset that
all three of these 8D AGMs where bad. They could not figure out what could
have made them die, even continuos discharge over the 2 months in the yard
they say should not have destroyed them. They actually didn't believe they
were bad. I returned them to their distributor in Annapolis MD and they
gave me a $800 credit on the new 6 volts. When I got there the distributor
was told to ship the bad batteries back to the labs in California for
testing. I got the feeling they don't fail very often.
