Dear Friends,

Let Great Thinkers Carry You To Success

Walt Disney: “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

William James: “A new idea is first condemned as ridiculous, and then
dismissed as trivial, until finally it becomes what everybody knows.”

*Inventions: *“Everything that can be invented has been invented.” 1899,
Charles Duell, U.S. Office of Patents Commissioner, advising President
William McKinley (25th U.S. President) to abolish the patent office.

*Telephone: *“An amazing invention, but who would ever want to use one?”
1876, U.S. President Rutherford Hayes

Automobiles: “Horses are here to stay. The automobile is only a novelty,
a fad”. 1903, Bank President, advising not investing in the Ford Motor
Company

*Computers: *“I think there is a world market for about 5 computers.” 1943,
Thomas J. Watson, IBM. “There is no reason for any individual to have a
computer in their home.” 1977, Ken Olsen, President, Digital Equipment

Albert Einstein: “I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has
meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.”

*Success Plan: *Write yourself a future diary, in the present tense, 5-10
years into the future, as if everything has already happened. Be careful
what you wish for, you may get it. Is it what YOU, yourself, really want?

Commitment: Decide to do something worthwhile and be bound emotionally or
intellectually to follow a definite course of action.

Albert Schweitzer: “The only ones among you who will be truly happy are
those who will have sought and found how to serve.”

*Begin To Win: *Have a clear idea of your goal. When you know clearly what
you want, you will start each day with excitement and passion. Begin each
day, expecting good things to happen.  Great ideas need action to become
reality.  Write down a step-by-step plan. Celebrate each small success. If
you fail to plan, you may be planning to fail. Break down any roadblocks to
your goal into one bite at a time. Progress is made one step at a time. A
building is built one brick at a time. Luck is preparation, planning and
thinking to produce success. If at first you miss the mark, move to a new
strategy. Opportunities are noticed by those who are focused. You must be
prepared, knowledgeable and experienced to succeed when your opportunity
arises.

Courage and persistence are keys to success:  Many successful people are
told: “How lucky you are!” after they have worked hard for many years to
achieve success. Give gratitude at the beginning of each day. Dedicated
work, doing your best will instill great strength and virtues in you that
idle people can never realize.

Eddie Cantor: “It takes 20 years to make an overnight success.”

Dr. Milton Erickson spoke of a child crawling, pulling himself up, trying
to stand and falling down many times, but eventually walking forwards,
backwards, running, hopping and skipping. What would happen if while
learning to walk, after falling down a few times, the child gave up?*
Biographies of successful people often reveal how their most trusted and
closest friends, family or business partners have blindsided and betrayed
them, leaving them in financial ruin or ill health. Yet, they pushed
forward, determined to continue to reach their dream. *Defeat only comes
with quitting.

*Martin Rutte: *“You have to do it by yourself, and you can’t do it alone.”

*Nelson Boswell: *“Always give people more than they expect to get.”

Warren Buffet: “…in looking for people to hire, look for 3 qualities:
integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the
other two will kill you.”

*Les Giblin: *“If you are not using your smile, you are like a man with a
million dollars in the bank and no check-book.”

On the Phone: Is your voice and language friendly, warm, enthusiastic,
positive, welcoming or rushed, loud?

What is Success? Is it more money, power, control over others, an amazing
car to impress others, a large home or more things to store in a still
bigger house? Some spend their whole life with an obsession of believing
more is better, but they always want more. That obsession, be it for
possessions, money, job, or status is never satisfied. Without balance,
their focus can be so intense that they miss out on what is going on around
them.

How Do You Measure Success? A poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of

Intelligent people and

the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation

of honest critics and

endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty,

To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better

whether by a healthy child,

a redeemed social condition,

or a job well done;

To know even one life has

breathed easier because

you have lived ---

This is to have succeeded.

*Goethe: *“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and help them
become what they are capable of being.”

*Proverbs 17:22, New King James Version: *“A merry heart does good
*like *medicine,
but a broken spirit dries the bones.”

*Elisabeth Kubler-Ross: *“It is only when we truly know and understand that
we have a limited time on earth – of knowing when our time is up -that we
will begin to live each day to the fullest.”

*Norman Cousins: *“The tragedy of life is not death, but what we let die
inside of us while we live.”

How we define success can determine our success, happiness, peace of mind
and fulfillment in life.
