My wife says I don't follow directions worth beans. I coated all wood with
penetrating Epoxy and lightly sanded. Then I applied just the top coat of
Cetol. The results are excellent after a year and there is no orange color. I
will put another coat on this spring.

Hi,

Could anybody in the list explain why there are some boats are fitted with 24 volts DC system instead of 12 volts and what is pros and cons of 24 volts system in the trawlers.

Could anybody in the list explain why there are some boats are fitted with
24 volts DC system instead of 12 volts and what is pros and cons of 24
volts system in the trawlers.

I suggest you read the article in the current Passagemaker magazine by
Steve D'Antonio for a comprehensive explanation.

In short, particularly if you are building a new boat, you can spend a lot
less money on wire because you can use smaller wire to carry an equivalent
amount of energy. The downside is that it is harder to find 24 volt
variants of some parts such as electronics and pumps. Therefore most 24
volt boats have a dual 12/24 volt system. On my boat for instance, the
engines are 12 volts and isolated from the rest of the boat's electrical
system. For house loads, such as VHF radios that are only available in 12
volts, I have a 24 to 12 volt converter that gives me 30 regulated amps of
12 volt power.
