Arild, I've owned one U.S., one Canadian, and two Far East manufactured
trawlers from the big named manufactures. The model years were, 2001, 2002,,
2002 and 2006, The fuel pick-up for all of these boat's was from a point near
the bottom of each tank. I had always thought that top tank pick-ups where
only on gasoline tanks. I would be surprised that so many manufactures
disregard this requirement. Could it be that this requirement is only for
gasoline?

I am extremely leery of any bottom of fuel tank fitting.
A failure will
result in draining the entire tank down to the level of the
broken fitting.
There is a good reason why USCG and ABYC recommend top mounted
entry and
exit fittings only.
