These our our choice of apps for boating.  Our range of boating is all of Florida--including the Keys and Gulf, plus areas in the Pacific North West.

  1. Garmin Blue Chart Mobile.  This includes Active captain--one of the best apps, in the excellent Garmin Charts.  Garmin also includes wind arrows/velocity.  Also Tides and Currents are available on the app.

  2. LightningCast (I pad)--gives good radar, plus nearest lightning strike.  In some ways I like Hi Def Radar better, but it does not give the up to the minute lightning strikes.

  3. Windfinder Pro--good wind velocity reports and predictions (along with tides, current direction, wave height)

  4. NOAA Buoy and Tide Data:  All NOAA weather stations current conditions easy table or map form.

  5. Accuweather: Gives prediction per hour, as well as for 15 days out--seems to be one of the most accurate.

We also use Boating Weather--which gives all of the NOAA forecasts summary.  For navigation we also use Navionics HD.  A friend just finished the "Great Loop" in a 22 foot C Dory ("Salty"}, his primary navigation tool was an I pad, and he used both Blue Charts Mobile, (With an emphasis on the Active Captain part), as well as Navionics.
