The foam on the top of my Northern Lights 8 KW has separated from the top of the sound shield. I'm looking to glue it back in place. Any suggestions for an adhesive to use?

I have this same problem. I've tried a couple of different spray-on
adhesives with poor results; the original glue was not the failure
point, but, rather, the foam itself is disintegrating, leaving a thin
layer of foam on the metal panel. When I re-glue it, another thing layer
of foam separates and stays behind along with the glue.

If you find a real solution to this I am all ears.

Foam safe construction adheasive?  The thick stuff in a caulking tube.
There is a special one for use with foam insulation.  Might that work?

Same deal I had, the foam deteriorates and no adhesive will correct it. If you want to salvage the foam, the only thing that would work would be a mechanical fastener. I replaced the foam with sound Down, they supply a self-adhesive pin with a gripping cap that covers the protruding pin. The product isn't cheap, but it works, and of course the foam is new so adhesive will adhere. I tried to re-glue mine on my westerbeke several times before finally throwing in the towel and getting new stuff, which, btw, is quieter.

Best wishes for a successful repair!

Cheers!

My mechanic used 3M Super Trim Adhesive Aerosol (yellow) when he installed the foam hood pad on the underside of the hood our car. The adhesive has been down below freezing temp and well over 150 degrees F with the sun & engine heat and has held perfectly for 3 years.

Onto another topic regarding sound shields for gensets: we all know the engine room can be a hellacious place for engines with heat, moisture, corrosion, poor ventilation, etc. So with most gensets being in the engine room and then surrounded by a close fitting sound shield, does the shield really make like a coffin for the getset engine life? What are the thoughts from the list?

No, the enclosure is designed for that, they provide a path for ventilation of the heat, most of it's produced by the generator, the engine heat is removed by seawater cooling.
