I just stumbled across a great site which, while somewhat limited, it's still pretty handy. Maptech has put up a mapserver at http:/www/mapserver.maptech.com. Use of the site appears to be free except having to periodically click "Continue using mapserver" button in an ad.
You can view charts, topomaps, arial photos. You can also save maps, email them to somebody, supposedly use them on a website, all kinds of stuff. I guess I sound like a commercial, but I think this stuff is really neat.
Anyway, usual disclaimers, my only involvement with them is that I've bought their products.

Jim, did you check out the new products intended for the Compaq iPAQ
hand held?
I'm not sure what to make of this. You get to display raster charts
instead of vector products.
However, except for a few top end vector products most of them do not
look as good as the raster product.
I'm concerned about the small size of the screen. Raster charts have
limited zoom capability and does so as a doubing or halving process whreas
most vector charts that I have seen can be changed almost infinitely.

People have been forwarding me assorted mapping sites on the internet like http://www.terraserver.com and http://www.mapblast.com. They're all interesting, and there are dozens more than these, but the Maptech site is one of the few which provides actual chartlets and is easy to use. My thoughts were that chartlets would be of a bit more interest to those of us here. I figured it might be a way for people to send a web link (Sorry George) showing where they were based, or what neat anchorage they found, etc. For example:
http://www.maptech.com/mymaps/mymaps.cfm?mid=10211|90778155
Will take you to Maana's moorage (when we finally get her back to her slip) or if you click on the drop down box, you can select Misery Island Anchorage. A place I spent many great times in my youth.
