You can also save the shells from boiled eggs. Just remove the inner membrane
and let the shell dry, then they're easy to crush into smaller bits.

thing I would suggest is that you microwave them for about 30 seconds to
destroy any possible salmonella or other microbes. I always put them in a
certain planter and the birds know to look there. Bluejays especially crave
calcium and someone on this list suggested last year that putting out
eggshells might prevent them from taking so many eggs from other nesting
