Congratulations
Our neighbor and friend, John Chelminiak, has been elected Deputy Mayor of
the City of Bellevue. First elected to the City Council in 2004, he is a
champion for human services. The deputy mayor is the council liaison to the
Human Services Commission and a member of both King County's Committee to
End Homelessness and the Eastside Human Services Forum. Prior to joining the
council, John served on the Planning Commission. His hard work pays off for
all of us!
Monthly Board Meetings
The February meeting will be held on Thursday the 4th at 7 pm at the home of
Raymon and Jessie Kooner, 9332 Vineyard Crest. All are welcome.
We are seeking hosts for our monthly meetings. They are held the first
Thursday of every month at 7 pm and usually last about two hours. If you
would like to volunteer, contact our secretary, Nyla Wang, at
mailto:secretary@vuecrest.net secretary@vuecrest.net. There's rarely more
than a dozen folks, and we come already fed, so it's a very casual
opportunity to connect with the board and see what's going on in Vuecrest.
Big Thanks
Our thanks to Montana Rose, and Liam Fraser for stuffing envelopes. They did
a terrific job of getting the yearly assessments ready for mailing.
Reminder
The yearly Homeowner's Annual Assessments have a deadline on January 31st.
If you have not already done so, please put your payment into the
self-return envelope. With a stamp and drop in the mailbox, it will soon
reach our esteemed treasurer, Eric Passmore.
Calendar Material
The annual Vuecrest Easter Egg Hunt is tentatively scheduled for Saturday,
March 19th. Stay tuned- The Farmers Almanac predicts sunshine and lots of
sneaky hiding places!
Tid-bits!
It's been a little cool and damp outside lately and we tend to stay inside
more. I have no plans on taking my late afternoon "walk-around" if there
aren't just a few bright rays to keep me company. Looking for a couple ideas
to get you out and about? Consider this:
How lucky we are to have our wonderful public library just a short walk
from Vuecrest! In honor of Martin Luther King's birthday, a special
presentation/lecture by Dr. Terrence Roberts will be held this Saturday, Jan
16 from 1-2PM in Room 1 at the library. Dr. Roberts was a member of the
"Little Rock Nine", the first group of African American students to
desegregate the Little Rock high school in 1957. He will discuss his
experiences at that time as well as reflect on the relevance of Dr. King's
message in today's world.
Our very own Bellevue Art Museum has a series of "Loggia" presentations. A
very interesting lecture will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 7-8:30 PM by Rob
Prufer (1995 - teacher of art and art history at Newport High School) about
Paul Gauguin (YES! think palm trees and beachscapes in Tahiti!) and his
post-impressionist work. Admission is free ($5 donation suggested) and
includes visiting time to the main exhibit hall. (Loggia comes from the
Italian word meaning an architectural space open to fresh air, often where
conversation and appreciation of the arts can be shared. Oh my, we ALL need
loggias!
Little less "kul-chur-al" but should get you "in the mood" is music from
the great swing era at Crossroads on Friday, Jan 22, 7-9PM. Remember "Fly me
to the Moon" and "Days of Wine and Roses"? (If not, stay home). Crossroads,
on 156th Ave NE, is always a fun evening out; maybe catch a movie, or hit
the food court and visit the several new ethnic restaurants that have just
opened. Always a bargain and it gives you that warm "I'm so glad I live
here" feeling-
Old swing not quite your style? Just one day later, Saturday night, Jan 23,
7-9PM a 17 piece jazz orchestra will take over the Market place stage at
Crossroads. Get those toes a'tappin. You've got rhythm, you just need to
dust it off and set it free!
We're opening up our "tid-bit" parameters to include items of interest
to/for/by Vuecresters. Planning a garage sale? Will your daughter be selling
Girl Scout cookies to our neighborhood? Does your strapping and always
hungry son want to earn some money clearing yards of their winter debris?
Drop us a note: mailto:dtpit@uw.edu dtpit@uw.edu and we'll be sure to
mention it. What better way to support our community than. (hmmm).. to
support our community!
We'll chat again mid-February.and have a happy and sweet Valentine's
Day! Kiss-kiss! Bye-bye! Mara
