Call American Diesel--Bob or Brian Smith.  (of Ford Lehman fame).
804-435-3107

Bob Smith is also the US liason for Perkins Saber, and as such sold this
engine and stocks parts.

the engine does not meet the latest emission standards, thus is no longer sold
in this country, but is still manufactured and sold abroad (from converstation
with Bob Smith last month at the Defever Rendezvous).  ADC sold this engine
until a couple of years ago, still stocks and sells parts.

Brian has been able to quickly supply any spare parts for this engine. If you
give Brian the serial number, he should be able to supply you complete service
and parts manuals.

It is a total redesign from the old 6-354 series.  Introduced in the early
90's.  Mine (non-turbo, 2002 model year) has been extremely reliable, with no
unusual problems for 1800 hours.  And, it is very clean engine, unlike the
older 6-354 series of engines.  I have also heard problems with the
turbocharged versions of the older 6-354 series.

If you remember, Cat bought Perkins about 10 years ago.  For a while, this
series of engines was also sold as Cat's, just painted yellow rather than
Perkins blue.  According to Bob Smith, Cat stopped selling them (yellow),
their dealers preferred the higher horsepower, higher cost domestic Cat
engines.

I have been giving TLC to my twin Perkins for the 11 years that I have
owned Tellico Lady, and having just completed a totally trouble free
Great Loop journey, am very much in love with them.

Over the years, I have found that the Trans Atlantic Diesel company can
not be beat.  They have been the generally accepted prime support source
for Perkins Marine Dealers for over 30 years.  While I have the greatest
respect for American Diesel and everyone connected with them, especially
if there is anything Ford Lehman related, -- they are relatively new to
the Perkins line, and I believe nobody has the in-depth knowledge of TA
Diesel.

Here is their website: http://www.tadiesels.com/

Just be aware that they have ALL the information on every engine out
there, but you MUST have the actual engine model number to get the
correct parts.  There were many combinations and permutations of Perkins
engines over the years, and they will get you the right parts if you
need them.  For example, here are my engine numbers:

Port Engine:        TE20696U545523E    (normal rotating)
Stbd Engine:      TE20572UX559949E      (counter rotating)

I have no vested interest in them, just a very happy customer.

Ken brought up an interesting circumstance, at least to me and that is of a
counter rotating perkins engine installation in his boat.  You know, I hate
to say it but I don't think this is something that I have thought about a
lot before.  How common is this type installation and are a lot of other
twin installations  (different mfgs) available and done this way?

Mine both turn the same way.  Perkins 6-354T's 1986.  Both have been
excellent engines.  I broke the Stbd one in October of '09 but that was my
fault.  The rebuilt one has performed perfectly for 300+ hrs.  The old one
has 2500+
