Dear Friend,

On May 6, 2017, I'll be taking part in JDRF One Walk at Cheney Stadium
in Tacoma, Washington to change the future for everyone affected by
type 1 diabetes (T1D). I am personally invested in this cause because
my cousin was diagnosed with this disease when she was a small child.
Since then Sarah has grown into an amazing person who is an incredible
athlete. She currently plays on the Texas Christian University’s
Volleyball team. Even though she has to check her blood sugar level
when she wakes up, before she goes to sleep, every time she eats, she
still finds the time and energy for her favorite sport. I have
personally witnessed the struggle she goes through on a daily basis
when she counts how many carbohydrates she consumed because that
determines how much insulin she needs. She has never let this disease
define her, and does not believe in the phrase “I
can’t.”

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s
pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin–a hormone essential
to turning food into energy. People with T1D must regularly monitor
their blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin through a pump, and
carefully balance their doses with eating and daily activities.

JDRF is funding research for new treatments that will make living with
this disease easier and healthier—until there is a cure.

Will you help me reach my fundraising goal today by donating even just
$25? Click the button below to get started.

It would also be fantastic if you were able to come and participate in
this year's One Walk

Thank you.

Sincerely,

John Foster

Sarah’s response to how diabetes has affected her life:

"It just kind of forces me to be more responsible and be self-aware of
my body. I've never had a doctor say I shouldn't do anything. I just
think it's very important for people to know that if you have Type 1
diabetes, that you can do everything. You just have to take two seconds
out of your day and check your blood sugar."
