Ebay item 130064070991 should interest some members of the group I think.

Not clear how one controls it (does it have an ethernet port somewhere ?)

Fun and games could happen with this thing in the wrong hands...

Looks like it needs some kind of dongle in order to operate, which is
(hopefully) missing...

It has a standard connector for the keyloader for loading the

P/Y crypto keys since it can simulate the P/Y signal too.  Obviously
coming by one of these keyloaders if you are not government might be a
bit problematic, though I suppose the thing without keys is not
classified per se...

I have no idea of whether it would be possible to load random

keys in (that met the parity check) and also load them into a GPS to
match, I suspect the tapes from NSA are in a specific format not
published outside the classified world, however.    Obviously loading
the current real working set would be very hard, but not necessary for
many evil uses of this thing since C/A receivers ignore the actual P/Y
code and wouldn't know the difference and not very many P/Y receivers
are in circulation.

Of course it isn't clear to me what percentage of an entire 10

channel GPS simulator the box advertised actually is....

Hi David:

I have an earlier version, see:
http://www.pacificsites.com/~brooke/5001a/5001A.html
The block diagram matches the GPS spec ICD-200 and the boards are made
using wire wrap and standard ICs.

Have Fun,

I recognize the tags. That thing is ex-Boeing. Probably from the military electronics division.

I believe I can say, with confidence, that the unit is probably good only as a curiosity in its current condition. The mil-electronics division, like all other Boeing div's, has very strict rules about decommissioning electronics that are headed for surplus. I know, because I spent four good years on the Defense & Space side.

The connector on the front is interesting. The designation it bears reminds me of the nomenclatures assigned to military encryption devices (which are certainly NOT going to easily show up at surplus).

Anyway... I don't see it being worth $800 in any case. $80, maybe, if it's got some good parts. I took a moment to look over the rest of the guy's listings, and what I found was, to my eyes, a severe case of what I call "optimistic overpricing." It is an unfortunate affliction that affects many surplus dealers who have limited knowledge of electronic equipment, yet try to sell it.

Keep the peace(es).

I wonder if you can run it unkeyed?  The KYK-13 is for uploading
keying material.

Anybody have a manual for this beast?

If it does run un-keyed, could be useful purchase for anyone wanting to test
GPS. The price asked does seem a bit high though.
