Does anyone know about the fires in Georgia and Florida this spring that are thought to have
affected our north bound migrants?
I was told by a big TV watcher that he saw  -  it may have affected the numbers of north bound
birds this spring with a possible big die off.
has anyone heard of this?
Don't know if this fact is true, but a first go trip of breeding birds and songs in Hartland
today seems to reflect this  - birds were noticeably (more then last year at this same time),
scarce and really not much song about.
Could be just the weather or early date, but don't believe this is the case.

Please post here if you might know or heard of this event and its influence on birds, and esp our
northern breeders.

Seen or heard in Hartland today of interest:

heard a MOURNING WARBLER off rt 20  - did not see; -  On glassy waters of Barkhamsted res:- 2
COMMON LOONS, one SCOTER sp - white wing? real far out.
Also saw and heard singing a NASHVILLE WARB - will keep a watch for it. Of note this year up here

  • have found more then usual RAVENS nests; possibly a very good year for them?
