Earlier this evening, Sean Williams found a Facebook post picturing a WOOD STORK walking in a neighborhood in Niantic.
The exact location is unknown, but apparently it was in vicinity of Crescent Beach.
Certainly several birders will be searching the area at first light tomorrow.
Could this be the bird that was last seen soaring high over Danbury this morning? Will it stick around our state or maybe even settle into one area long enough to offer more birders the chance to see it?
Since the species has been known to soar like vultures, I Googled for images of Wood Storks flying to learn what to look for. I hope many CT birders will do the same and get out tomorrow, look around and look up!

Good Morning All,
Just wanted to say this is the type of email I really appreciate from this
group as far as learning more. Chuck mentions looking up soaring
pictures-that’s helpful to me since I hadn’t thought about that particular
aspect. There’s lots of tidbits that I appreciate because what may be
common knowledge to a more experienced birder isn’t to me. So info shared
about what type of habitat to go check out, ID stuff, when to take
advantage of certain weather to bird certain birds etc. is all very
helpful. I do utilize
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/ and other sources but sometimes I
wouldn’t even know or think to look up something in particular.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who shares info and happy birding!
Sincerely,
Deirdra Wallin

I checked the waterways around Crescent Beach, Giants Neck and Rocky Neck.
Unfortunately, no Wood Stork. Beautiful morning though!
Thank you,
