In addition to providing training and preservation services to the community of HBCU radio stations, the HBCU Radio Preservation Project aims to assist stations and their institutional archives/libraries in identifying immediate preservation needs and addressing them, if at all possible. To that end, mini-grants of $250 to $2,000 are available on a first-come, first served basis.
These capacity-building mini-grants may be used for the following activities:
-
Preservation: to purchase archival file folders, archival boxes, storage shelves, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, hygrothermometers, or other materials necessary to aid in the organization and stabilization of archival materials.
-
Memberships: in professional organizations that have a direct impact on the radio station or library's capacity for preservation work (Society of American Archivists, Association for the Study of African American Life & History, state or regional history organizations) to obtain technical information and networking opportunities.
-
Professional development/travel: to help offset the costs of attending.
Applications for this round of mini-grants are due May 31, 2024. Another round will be offered this fall.
Application Closes May 31, 2024
