To TAP's amazing members, volunteers and other supporters:
The
TAP Board of Directors must, with sorrow, announce that TAP will be
closing the doors on it's physical location at 11th and MLK. There just
isn't enough public support of time and funds to allow us to keep these
doors open any longer. Effective immediately, TAP will be open Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 1pm-5pm only.
We will maintain these open hours as long as it is possible to do so,
but as we liquidate our modest assets it will rapidly become
infeasible. PLEASE check the website for CURRENT hours of operation! The
final day we have to be completely cleaned up and turn over the keys is
August 31st. The final week of August will be spent patching walls and
painting.
We
understand how much of a blow this will be to our many regular members,
and we will be doing everything in our power to grant studio access to
finish up projects, keep classes running as long as possible, and unite
members with art that needs to be picked up.
Unique opportunities for members:
Most equipment and supplies will be
sold to help pay bills, and Volunteers and Members will have the
opportunity to purchase items via silent auction donation for very nice
prices.A members-only social will be held in August to give everyone networking opportunities, TBA For these and other items of interest, please keep checking our website,www.tacomaartplace.org
Would you like to help? Here's how!
Please buy raffle tickets, and tell
all your friends about it! There will be so many fabulous prizes!
Information will be made available here, and also on our website. The Donate button on the website is
always eager for you to press it, and the Ugly Kitty at TAP is always
happy for you to feed it a coin or two!Help-rich but cash-poor? Put your
name down to be on a cleaning or painting team, or just promote the
raffle as much as possible.
Thank
you so much to everyone who made our time at this location possible! We
never could have done it without you. Please direct all your questions

Tacoma Art Place Closing Facility, Still Planning Arts Programming for Underserved
After
four and a half years, Tacoma Art Place (TAP) will be closing the doors
on its "brick and mortar" location at 11th and MLK on August 31st,
2012.
"Unfortunately,
there simply wasn't enough public support to keep the facility open,"
Linda Danforth, Founder and first President said at the meeting that
announced the reality of the closure to volunteers. "We had a good run,"
adds current president, Deborah Dodson, "Remember, TAP itself is not
closing, just this building."
In
the effort not to close in the red, TAP has some fundraising plans and
asks for community support. Most equipment and supplies will be offered
first to members for donations, then to the public. An exciting raffle
will soon go live, with the drawing to be held mid-August. Purchasing
raffle tickets is an excellent way to show support, and information will
be posted to www.tacomaartplace.org as
soon as details are available. Current members can also check the
website for open studio hours: TAP will remain open with restricted
hours for as long as it is possible to do so, and every effort will be
made to help every member finish current projects.
After the building is vacated, TAP will be focusing on the outreach arm of its core function, "to reach underserved groups with
arts programming," through artistic pursuit in the Tacoma area. Mobile
units will reach out to local schools, community centers -- everywhere
art can make a difference.
