Sixth Annual Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Competition

Set to Recognize Exceptional Student Musicians

Tacoma, WA - The Broadway Center, supported in part by the Tacoma Philharmonic Endowment Fund, presents the sixth annual Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Competition. The competition highlights extraordinarily talented student instrumentalists from across the Puget Sound area. Following a selection process, the Finals recital will be on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Pacific Lutheran University. Winners will then be selected to represent three divisions: Junior Division (grades 7 through 9) Senior Division (grades 10 through 12) and Young Artist (up to age 24). The winners' Showcase Recital will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Theatre on the Square.

Named to honor the memory of Beatrice Herrmann, a long-time supporter of performing arts in Tacoma, the Competition encourages young instrumentalists to excel in their pursuit of musical excellence.  Applications are now being accepted through March 1, 2013 and are open to all wind, string, piano and percussion student instrumentalists from seventh grade through age 24. Over $1,800 in prizes will be awarded to young musicians in three age categories that embody the pursuit of high artistic standards.

All students who wish to compete must first submit an audio recording of themselves performing classical solo recital repertoire by March 1, 2013. More information on competition rules and registration requirements can be found on the Broadway Center's websitehttp://broadwaycenter.org/education/bhyac.asp or by contacting Tony Gomez at tgomez@broadwaycenter.orgmailto:tgomez@broadwaycenter.org.

Select students will advance to the final competition stage at Pacific Lutheran University's Lagerquist Concert Hall. Up to six applicants in each division will be selected to perform at the competition finals. The First and Second Prize winners in each division will then be invited to perform in the Winner's Recital, and will receive a portion of the monetary prizes.

Tickets for the Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Winner's Showcase Recital are available now.  Tickets are free, with a suggested donation of $5 for student or seniors, $8 for adults at the door.
