I've been contacted by a helpful person who is willing to undertake
a group buy of Austron GPS antennas. Here is what he said:
"If I can get enough interest, there's a real possibility that
better-than-original Downconverter Antenna Units for Austron
GPS can be manufactured for me.
Applies to all known Austron GPS Receivers such as 2200,
2200A, 2201, 2201A and variants.
These units all send 15 volts and 10Mhz to the antenna unit
which multiplies this and uses it to derive a local oscillator
signal of 1500MHz in the antenna unit itself.
1575.42MHz - 1500 MHz = 75.42MHz which is sent back
down the coax from the antenna unit to the gps rx.
(All these receivers are useless without the downconverter
antenna - and there have to be lots of 'em in the hands of
time nuts)"

Just a thought, did these units work after the GPS Week rollover. Seem to
think they were all pre this date.

A comment.
Indeed the odetics gpsstart down converter can also be made to work with the
austrons.
In the odetics case the 10 mc austron is multiplied to 40 mc that drives the
down converter and you get 75.42 out for the austron.
This is the way I was able to get my 2201a working.
Fleamarket special at $5. But no down converter.
So the rcvrs can be made operational again. Though some may have old enough
software that the rollovers an issue.
Though by manually telling it what sats to look at to start it still seems
to work after its acquired a sat and downloaded the almanac.

Can someone confirm what the downconverted frequency is for an Odetics
GPStar? I have been told that it is 35.42 MHz. but I would like to get

Don't know what levels are required. However, I do know that Meinberg's
model GPS-ANT is compatible.

Very interesting on the zarlink any idea what hackable GPS rcvr that might
be?
To confirm it the odetics GPStar is 35.42.
I mix that with 10 MC ref from the austron X 4 mult to 40 MC. Result 75.42
needed for the austron.
This minimized hacking within the austron. Granted I could have also built a
filter set to separate the single coax but it was far simpler to tap off the
IF by a seperate rg 174 cable and keep the signals separate. At the time I
had no idea that all of it would work. This was about 6 months ago. So
filter sets were not of interest.
Though I have not proved it I may suspect that the arrangement might let the
odetics work simultaneously while using the austrons stabilized reference.

Hi Magnus, thanks for that information. I had forgotten about that Plessey
GP2010 and GP2015 RF chip. The only problem is that you have to do a divide
by 7 on the 40 MHz signal that Plessey did in the GP2021 correlator IC.
Using an old SuperStar RX is a good reconmendation. Thanks. Doug, k4cle.

Paul, its the GEC Marconi SuperStar GPS receiver. It was also sold by
Novatel but they discontinued it a few years ago. These receivers show up
on eBay every now and then.
